Unitree 4D LiDAR L2 Review Summary
The L2 is the sensor that gives Unitree's Go2 robot its view of the world, sold separately at a price far below that of most 3D LiDARs. It covers a hemisphere around itself, sees objects from 5 cm to 30 m, weighs 230 g and draws about 10 W, so it suits small mobile robots. It comes with support for ROS1, ROS2 and Windows and open-source mapping software. Its accuracy of about 2 cm is enough for navigation and obstacle avoidance but not for measurement, and its circumferential scan rate of 5.55 Hz is modest.
Pros
Hemispherical 360° × 96° field of view
Very low price for a 3D LiDAR
230 g and about 10 W
5 cm near blind zone
ROS1 and ROS2 support with open-source SLAM
Cons
Accuracy of about 2 cm
5.55 Hz circumferential scan rate
15 m range on dark surfaces
No protection rating published
Backordered at the time of writing
Who It Is For
The L2 fits developers, students and builders of small mobile robots who need 3D perception for navigation at low cost.
