Company History

OnRobot combines three companies. Perception Robotics was founded in Los Angeles by Nicholas Wettels and Helena Yli-Renko to develop tactile and gecko-inspired grippers. OptoForce was founded in Hungary in 2012 by Akos Tar and Jozsef Veres and made force and torque sensors. On Robot was founded in Denmark in 2015 around the RG2 and RG6 electric grippers, and received money from private investors and the Danish Growth Fund in 2016.
In June 2018 the three merged as OnRobot. The merger was led by Enrico Krog Iversen, who had been chief executive of Universal Robots, and backed by the Danish Growth Fund; the same pair had sold Universal Robots to Teradyne in 2015 for USD 285 million. The stated aim was to build a leading supplier of end-of-arm tooling through acquisitions and partnerships, with revenue above USD 100 million within a few years.
