Sanctuary AI Hydraulic Hand Review Summary
Sanctuary uses hydraulics to fit strong grip and fine control into a human-scale hand with 17 degrees of freedom. Hydraulics hold static loads with little energy and heat, and safety comes from low operating pressure, minimal fluid volume and automatic fault protection. Integrated tactile sensing supports touch-driven tasks, and demonstrations show zero-shot reinforcement learning transfer and low-latency teleoperation, including on a Universal Robots arm. The hand is still in development and entering pilots, and Sanctuary publishes no force, speed, weight or durability figures.
Pros
17 DOF
Tactile sensing
High power density
Safety-focused hydraulics
Cons
Not yet commercially available
No numeric specs
Who It Is For
It fits research teams and early adopters piloting dexterous manipulation on arms or humanoids.
