PMD Juno MC71113 MC73113 MC78113 Outer-Loop Control ICs product image

Performance Motion Devices Juno is a family of motor-control integrated circuits with distinct velocity, torque and step-motor members. This review focuses on choosing the correct control function, motor support and package for a custom controller board.

Key Specifications

Velocity examples

MC71113 for DC brush, MC73113 for brushless DC, MC78113 for selectable DC brush/brushless DC in current velocity product information

Torque examples

MC71112/MC71112N for DC brush; MC73112/MC73112N for brushless DC

Power-stage scope

External bridge-type switching amplifier and supporting circuitry required

Package selection

Velocity examples use 64-pin TQFP; specified torque N variants use 56-pin VQFN

Interfaces

Serial, SPI, analog commands and CAN availability depend on the exact subfamily and function

Development tools

Matched developer kit, Pro-Motion and C-Motion host SDK as applicable

Velocity IC loop rates

MC7X113: programmable velocity loop up to 10 kHz; current loop 20 kHz

Velocity IC PWM settings

MC7X113: 20, 40, 80 or 120 kHz

Integration into industrial automation systems; application depends on the selected configuration

Medical and life sciences; Manufacturing

Review Summary

Juno is useful for OEMs designing their own motor-control electronics with a clearly defined loop and motor requirement. Select the complete IC reference and external power stage; a Juno control chip is not a finished amplified drive, and family interface lists do not apply uniformly to every member. The same MC71113, MC73113 and MC78113 devices also support an outer-loop application: an external process sensor supplies pressure, temperature or another measured quantity through the specified analog or digital SPI path. PMD describes a PID outer loop that commands the downstream PI velocity loop. This is an additional control use of the identified IC family, not a separate motor amplifier or a different chip with an interchangeable model number.
