Medtronic Hugo RAS System Review Summary
Hugo's arms are modular: they can be moved, shared between rooms and positioned to optimize anatomical access. The open surgeon console keeps the surgeon in contact with the bedside team and is designed to reduce physical strain. Touch Surgery adds pre-operative training, remote tele-proctoring and AI-powered case insights, with video available seconds after a procedure. The FDA cleared Hugo on December 3, 2025 for prostatectomy, nephrectomy and cystectomy after the Expand URO study met its endpoints; general and gynecologic indications are expected later. Outside the US it has been used in tens of thousands of procedures in more than 30 countries.
Pros
Modular arms
Open console
Strong digital ecosystem
Wide international use
Cons
US indications limited to urology
Who It Is For
It fits hospital urology programs seeking a modular robotic platform from a broad surgical supplier.
