Company History

Niels Jul Jacobsen founded MiR in Odense in 2013 to build mobile robots that could work safely among people and be set up without specialist programming. The company grew very quickly: sales rose fivefold from 2015 to 2016 and roughly tripled again in 2017, to USD 12 million, a year in which it was profitable. By early 2018 it had a distribution network in more than 40 countries and regional offices in New York, San Diego, Singapore, Dortmund, Barcelona and Shanghai, and hundreds of manufacturers had installed its robots.
On April 25, 2018 Teradyne announced that it was acquiring MiR for EUR 121 million, about USD 148 million, net of cash acquired, plus up to EUR 101 million if performance targets were met through 2020. Teradyne's chief executive at the time, Mark Jagiela, called MiR the market leader in the young but fast-growing market for collaborative autonomous mobile robots. Teradyne had bought Universal Robots three years earlier, also in Odense.
Key milestones
2013: MiR founded by Niels Jul Jacobsen.
2017: Revenue of USD 12 million, more than triple the previous year.
2018: Teradyne announces the acquisition on April 25.
2022: Groundbreaking for a joint headquarters with Universal Robots in Odense.
2024: The joint headquarters of about 20,000 square meters opens; the MC600 mobile collaborative robot is launched in November.
Ownership and Structure
MiR is wholly owned by Teradyne, Inc. and forms the Teradyne Robotics group together with Universal Robots. The two companies share a headquarters in Odense, designed for 600 employees. MiR sells through branch offices and a worldwide network of distributors, and since the MC600 it also sells some products directly.
Products
MiR describes its robots as autonomous mobile robots for logistics and manufacturing that can be deployed or redeployed within hours and move everything from small parts to heavy pallets.
Product | Type | Notes |
MiR250 | Autonomous mobile robot | Compact robot, also available with a hook for towing carts |
MiR600 | Autonomous mobile robot | Robot for pallets and heavy loads |
MiR1350 | Autonomous mobile robot | The heaviest standard platform |
MiR1200 Pallet Jack | Autonomous pallet jack | Pallet transport |
MC250 | Mobile collaborative robot | Mobile base with a robot arm, popular in semiconductor fabs |
MC600 | Mobile collaborative robot | MiR600 base with a Universal Robots UR20 or UR30 arm, payload up to 600 kg |
Top modules | Attachments | Towing, shelf lifting and pallet transport |
MiR Fleet, MiR Insights and robot software | Software | Fleet management, analytics and robot control |

The MC600

Launched in November 2024, the MC600 combines the MiR600 mobile base with a UR20 or UR30 collaborative arm from Universal Robots, controlled by a unified software platform from the Danish partner Enabled Robotics. It is aimed at palletizing, box handling, machine tending and material handling across several machines. It is the clearest example of what Teradyne gains by owning both companies.
