Banner RSio Remote Safe I/O Review: Specs and Uses of the IP67 Remote Safety I/O Block
Updated: 7 days ago

The Banner RSio is a safety I/O block mounted on the machine that connects e-stops, light curtains and switches to a safety PLC over Ethernet. The manufacturer does not publish a price. This review covers its specifications, features and uses.
Quick Verdict
RSio moves safety I/O out of the control cabinet and onto the machine. Its six M12 inputs take safety or standard devices, and each can chain up to 32 devices with Banner's In-Series Diagnostics, which pinpoints which e-stop or door switch caused a stop, up to 192 devices per block. Two outputs drive safety devices with readback. It reaches Cat 4, PL e and SIL 3. A built-in two-port switch supports daisy chain, star and DLR rings, and it is configured entirely in Rockwell's Studio 5000 with Banner's add-on profile, so GuardLogix users need no extra software. Power pass-through is up to 10 or 16 A depending on model.
