Where can I get cobot training and support in the US?

In the US, cobot training is available through manufacturers, authorized distributors, training centers, and integration partners. Universal Robots Academy offers free e-learning and instructor-led courses, while manufacturer support channels and local distributors provide technical assistance. A3 also offers robot safety and risk assessment training. Select training for your exact robot, controller, software, and operating responsibilities.

Separate operator, programmer, and maintenance needs

Operators need to understand normal startup, job selection, replenishment, protective stops, and approved recovery steps. Programmers need tool and work coordinates, payload configuration, motion planning, I/O, and structured error handling. Maintenance staff need the manufacturer's inspection procedures, backups, replacement policies, and appropriate isolation practices. One introductory course rarely covers all three roles in enough detail.

Train on the actual application

General platform training is valuable, but it should be followed by instruction on your gripper, fixtures, machine interface, and production recipes. Ask the integrator to demonstrate a missed pick, a machine fault, and a restart after an interrupted cycle. Employees should understand when they may recover a process and when a fault requires a qualified technician rather than repeated reset attempts.

Confirm the support contract before buying

Establish the contact method, service hours, response targets, escalation route, remote-access policy, and what requires a paid visit. Manufacturer support for the robot may not include third-party tooling, PLC code, or the machine being tended. Name the organization responsible for diagnosing a complete-cell problem. Keep serial numbers, software versions, backups, and wiring documentation accessible so the support team can work effectively.

Make learning part of normal operation

Assign a primary and backup person for each role and keep short written procedures near the station. Review training after substantial tooling, product, program, or safety changes. Free e-learning can build familiarity, but it is not a substitute for application-specific competency or safety validation. Confirm current course availability, location, language, fees, and prerequisites directly with the training provider; schedules change.
