JVL QuickStep MIS231, MIS232 and MIS234 Legacy Motors

JVL QuickStep MIS231, MIS232 and MIS234 Legacy Motors

The legacy JVL QuickStep MIS231, MIS232 and MIS234 range combines a NEMA23 stepper motor with motor-mounted drive electronics. The source configurations include basic M1 pulse/direction units using SMD73 electronics and M5 programmable units using SMC75. These related motors differ in size and control architecture, and should not inherit the specifications of newer closed-loop ServoStep generations.

Review Summary

These QuickStep configurations are most useful to assess for an existing machine, a documented replacement or an integration that specifically requires their command interface. The main benefit is local drive integration. The main selection risk is confusing an M1 basic drive, an M5 programmable controller and a newer ServoStep motor because all use similar MIS family names.

Motor sizesMIS231 / MIS232 / MIS234; separate NEMA23 motor sizes, not aliases
Catalog motor torque1.1 / 1.6 / 2.9 Nm respectively in legacy LD0063-13GB; not an operating-speed torque guarantee
M1 basic electronicsSMD73 pulse/direction driver; 12–28 VDC supply; configured step resolution
M5 programmable electronicsSMC75 controller; 12–48 VDC motor power and separate 12–28 VDC logic supply in the legacy documentation
M5 connectorsFour M12 connectors; two RS485 connection points and eight configurable I/O in the documented arrangement
Command resolution by electronicsSMD73 selectable 200 / 400 / 800 / 1000 / 1600 pulses/revolution; SMC75 documented fixed 1600 pulses/revolution
ProgrammingM5 source listing specifies a 200-step local program; verify installed firmware and actual command set
Legacy feedbackEncoder options depend on ordering code and supported electronics; feedback is not universal
Network optionsCANopen and DeviceNet are separate ordering arrangements; not automatically present on an M5
Lifecycle contextLegacy documentation dated 2009; confirm current supply, service and replacement support for the exact code

Applications and Industries

Consider these legacy configurations for maintenance of identified OEM positioning axes, indexing mechanisms or local programmable motion tasks with compatible pulse/direction or serial control. Suitability depends on the exact installed motor and controller, rather than the QuickStep name alone.
