The da Vinci 5 is Intuitive's surgical robot for minimally invasive surgery, with Force Feedback instruments, improved 3D vision and 10,000 times the computing power of the da Vinci Xi.
For more than twenty years the main criticism of robotic surgery was that the surgeon could see but not feel. The da Vinci 5 answers it with Force Feedback: sensors in the instruments measure push and pull at the tip and return it to the surgeon's hands. Intuitive reports up to 43% less force on tissue in preclinical data. Around this the company has rebuilt the system, with more than 150 design changes, a new 3D display with four times the pixels and 10,000 times the computing power of the previous Xi model, which supports data analysis and training tools.
