Company History

Hans Moravec, a pioneer of robot vision at Carnegie Mellon University, co-founded Seegrid in 2003 with the goal of building a robot that navigates without human intervention. The company applied camera-based navigation to industrial trucks and sold its 100th robot in 2015.
Growth capital followed. In 2020 Seegrid closed a round of USD 52 million led by G2VP, which took total funding past USD 150 million and valued the company at more than USD 400 million; its chairman said at the time that it was profitable and held more than USD 50 million in cash with no debt. In the same year it acquired Box Robotics, a developer of 3D perception. Customers had then driven about 3 million autonomous miles, a figure that has since grown almost sevenfold.
