Schmalz SPZ-M-C Layer Gripper with Clamps and Skirt product image

The Schmalz SPZ-M-C is the most capable of the SPZ layer gripping family, adding mechanical clamping and a patented skirt that creates a global vacuum suction chamber. It handles difficult goods such as layers with chimneys and unfixed cans on cardboard trays, which previously had to be moved manually.

The family includes SPZ (basic FXC/FMC modules), SPZ-M (adds mechanical clamping for PET bottles and loosely packed boxes) and SPZ-M-C. A deep-freeze version works down to -30°C.

Quick Verdict

The answer for layers that defeat ordinary vacuum grippers, automating tasks previously done by hand.

Design and Operating Principle

Layer grippers pick an entire pallet layer at once. Schmalz builds them from FXC/FMC large-area modules whose suction chambers compensate for unevenness across the layer, so products of slightly different heights are all held.

The skirt surrounds the layer so vacuum acts on the whole layer, not individual items, while mechanical clamps contain the sides, allowing even unfixed cans to be lifted.

Integration and Selection

Select SPZ-M-C for the hardest layers and specify the deep-freeze version for cold stores.
