The Schmalz SPZ layer gripping system is built from modularly connected large-area grippers to pick and transport layers of products sorted and stacked on pallets.

It handles cardboard boxes, composite packaging, bottles, cans, glass jars and sacks, shrink-wrapped or not, chilled or frozen, with or without intermediate layers. FMC modules compensate unevenness, mechanical gripper modules can be added, a skirt forms a global vacuum chamber and energy-saving regulation is built in. No gripper change is needed for order changes.

Quick Verdict

A layer gripper that handles almost any packaged goods without changeover, including layers with gaps.

Design and Operating Principle

Layer grippers pick an entire pallet layer at once. Schmalz builds them from FXC/FMC large-area modules whose suction chambers compensate for unevenness across the layer, so products of slightly different heights are all held.

A skirt seals around the layer to create one large vacuum chamber, which handles gaps or chimneys in the pattern. Mechanical clamps secure items vacuum alone cannot hold.

Integration and Selection

Define layer sizes and products, choose basic SPZ or M/M-C variants, and size the vacuum source.

Use energy-saving regulation during holding.
