PushCorp AFD120 Active Force Compliance Device Review: Specs, Price and Applications

The PushCorp AFD120 is a compact active robotic force compliance device designed for cobots and smaller industrial robots. It applies up to 27 lbf (120 N) with ±0.2 lb (±1.0 N) resolution over a 20 mm linear compliant stroke.
It weighs 5.1 lb (2.3 kg), carries payloads up to 27.1 lb (12.3 kg) and comes in vertical (-1) and horizontal (-2) versions. The -FCU version uses the FCUFLEX controller, while the -POE version communicates directly over passive Power over Ethernet using JSON over UDP. USB-C allows commands and firmware updates.
Quick Verdict
Brings true active force control to cobot finishing in a light, easily integrated package.

Design and Operating Principle
Active compliance devices use internal closed-loop control with force, acceleration and position sensors to apply a set force in any orientation. The FCUFLEX controller sets force and monitors I/O from a PLC, robot controller or PC, and automatic acceleration compensation and payload weighing keep force constant as the robot moves over contours.
The PoE version removes the separate controller by talking to the robot or PC over Ethernet, convenient on cobots.
Integration and Selection
Pair with SM1202 or RPS100 spindles, choose vertical or horizontal mounting and connect FCUFLEX or PoE.
Provide clean, dry air.
