Pilz PRMS Review: Features and Uses of the Cobot Collision Measurement Set
Updated: 7 days ago

The Pilz PRMS is a measuring kit used to prove that a collaborative robot application is safe on contact. The manufacturer does not publish a price. This review covers its specifications, features and uses.
Quick Verdict
A cobot is not safe by itself; the application is. Where people and a robot share a space without fences, the forces and pressures in a possible collision must stay below the limits for each body region in ISO/TS 15066, and this has to be measured. PRMS is the kit for that. A force gauge takes nine interchangeable springs whose stiffness represents different body regions, and pressure-indicating films, read by a scanner, show local pressure. Licensed software records results and generates the test report. The set comes in a case, can be bought or rented, and includes calibration and software updates; a day of training is included with purchase.
