Modular end effector frame tooling illustration

Piab's Hybrid HX end effectors for 5+ axis robots are built exclusively with HX hybrid frame profiles and modular off-the-shelf gripper components. They combine the adjustability of tubular frames with the rigidity of extruded channel profiles.

HX profiles come in 40 mm and 60 mm OD (HX-40 and HX-60). Gripper hardware mounts directly into side channels to prevent rotation, the centre hole can be tapped for M8 screws, and compliant oil-resistant cups and hold-down clamps are available.

Quick Verdict

A smart frame system for press tending tools that stays adjustable like tubing yet resists twisting like extrusion.

Design and Operating Principle

Tubular frames are easy to adjust because components clamp anywhere around the tube, but they can rotate under load. Extruded channel frames are rigid but less flexible. HX profiles combine a round outer shape with side channels, giving both.

Mounting gripper hardware directly in the side channels locks its orientation, so cups stay aligned during high-speed moves in press lines.

Hold-down clamps keep parts secured if vacuum fails, an important safety feature when handling heavy steel blanks.

Integration and Selection

Choose HX-40 for lighter tools and HX-60 for long-reach or heavy tools. Lay out cups and clamps for each part and lock them in the channels.

Use oil-resistant cups for oily blanks.
