Compliant spring-loaded tooling arm category illustration

The Piab GSZ is an inline spring-loaded arm for GRZ 20-16 part and sprue pliers. It lets the gripper absorb the mold's ejector stroke.

It is used when sprues and runner systems do not stay on the ejector pins after ejection. The arm is end ported for quick-touch pneumatic connectors and comes with a clampable shaft (C) or threaded shaft (M) with jam nut and lock washers for plate mounting.

Quick Verdict

A simple compliance element that makes sprue picking reliable by letting the gripper follow the ejector stroke instead of fighting it.

Design and Operating Principle

When a sprue does not stay on the ejector pins, the robot must grip it while ejection happens. A rigid gripper would collide with the moving sprue or ejector plate. The GSZ spring lets the gripper move back with the ejector stroke while keeping hold.

End porting routes air through the arm so hoses do not snag, and the two shaft styles fit different EOAT frame designs.

Integration and Selection

Mount the GSZ on the EOAT frame, attach a GRZ 20-16 plier and synchronise gripping with ejection in the robot and molding machine sequence.

Choose clampable shafts for adjustable frames and threaded shafts for plate mounting.
