Company History

Nachi-Fujikoshi was founded in Toyama in 1928 by Kohki Imura to make cutting tools and machine tools in Japan. The Nachi trademark dates from 1929, when a Fujikoshi hacksaw blade was honored during a tour by Emperor Showa, and Imura named the product after a Japanese naval cruiser. During the high-growth decades after the war the company became what it calls a total machinery manufacturer, and from the 1960s it set out to become a mechatronics manufacturer.
It began building robots in 1969, drawing on its hydraulic control technology and its experience automating machine tools. Nachi Robotics was established in North America in 1989 and is based in Novi, Michigan.
