Company History
Nabtesco was created in 2003 by bringing together Teijin Seiki, a maker of precision machinery including reduction gears, and NABCO, a maker of brakes and automatic doors. The name combines the two. In 2010 it bought the door automation business of the Swiss company that is now Dormakaba, which strengthened its position in automatic doors in Europe.

Businesses
Robot gears are the part of Nabtesco best known in automation, but they are not its largest business.
Segment | Fiscal 2025 sales | What it covers |
Accessibility Solutions | JPY 110.7 billion | Automatic doors and platform screen doors |
Transport Solutions | JPY 100.5 billion | Railway brakes and door systems, aircraft flight control equipment and other transport components |
Component Solutions | JPY 79.3 billion | Precision reduction gears for industrial robots, and hydraulic equipment |
The company describes its position in precision reduction gears for industrial robots as high. These are cycloidal gears, which carry heavier loads than the strain wave gears used in smaller robots, so they are typically found in the base and lower joints of large robot arms.
Financial Performance
Item | Fiscal 2025, ended December 2025 |
Net sales | JPY 307.9 billion |
Operating income | JPY 20.7 billion |
Forecast profit attributable to owners, fiscal 2026 | JPY 18.6 billion |
Operating income was about 6.7% of sales. Because the three segments serve different markets, railways, buildings and factories, results are less tied to the robot investment cycle than those of a pure gear maker.
