Mecademic MEGP 25 Miniature Electric Parallel Gripper product image

The Mecademic MEGP 25 is a miniature electric parallel gripper fully integrated with the Meca500, Mecademic's compact six-axis industrial robot. It was developed in collaboration with SCHUNK.

The gripper is controlled directly within the command stream used to drive the robot arm, so opening, closing, finger speed and gripping force for internal and external grips are programmed alongside robot motions. It ships with a Meca500 adaptor plate but without fingers.

Quick Verdict

The natural gripper for a Meca500. Native integration makes precision micro-assembly programming simple and keeps the tool as compact as the robot.

Design and Operating Principle

The Meca500 is one of the smallest industrial six-axis robots and is used for precision tasks in tight spaces. A gripper for it must be tiny and light, and the MEGP 25 is sized accordingly.

Because gripper commands are part of the robot's own command stream, there is no separate I/O handshake or PLC logic. Grip and release are sequenced exactly with motions, which helps cycle time and reliability in micro-assembly.

Adjustable force is important for delicate parts such as optics, small electronics or medical components, where too much force causes damage and too little lets the part slip.

Integration and Selection

Design custom fingers for the part, since none are supplied. Program grip force and speed for each part type in the robot program.

Account for gripper and finger mass within the Meca500 payload.
