Company History
Mecademic began in 2012 at the Ecole de technologie superieure in Montreal. Its founder and chief technology officer is Jonathan Coulombe, and Ilian Bonev, a robotics professor at the school, remains a special advisor. The Meca500 was launched in 2015 with an unusual design: the controller is built into the robot's base, so there is no separate cabinet, and the arm repeats positions to within 5 microns.
The company was recognized in the Deloitte Canada Technology Fast 50 in 2021 and named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies in 2024. In 2023 it added a second product, the MCS500 SCARA robot. In 2026 it set up an independent board and secured strategic funding.
