LMI Gocator 2500 series 3D laser line profilers

The LMI Gocator 2500 is a series of high-speed smart 3D laser line profilers with scan rates of up to 20,000 Hz and 1920 points per profile. The manufacturer does not publish prices. This review covers the models, specifications, features and uses.

Quick Verdict

The 2500 series is the fast line in the Gocator range. Where the 2600 series puts resolution first, the 2500 puts speed first: every model reaches 20 kHz in its high-speed configuration, including scanning, measurement and pass or fail decision. Blue lasers with special optics handle dark and mirror-like surfaces, and two models, the 2512 and 2522, are made for specular targets such as glass and polished metal. Fields of view run from 13 mm to about half a metre. Weight and protection rating are not given on the series page.

The lower scan rate applies to the default configuration and the higher rate to the high-speed configuration. Repeatability is measured on the maker's standard target with an optimized configuration.

Detailed Technical Data

  • Blue laser on all models; red or blue on the 2540 and 2550

  • Laser class 2 on the smallest models; classes up to 3B on larger ones

  • Protective covers for camera and laser windows on the 2540 and 2550

Design and Build Quality

The series is built around a fast imager and blue laser light. Blue light scatters less inside translucent materials and gives a sharper line on dark or shiny surfaces than red light, which is why it is preferred for electronics, batteries and polished parts. The 2512 and 2522 are arranged to measure specular surfaces, which reflect the laser like a mirror and defeat ordinary profilers.

Software and Integration

Smart Sensor

Built-in tools perform 3D alignment, part segmentation and feature extraction on the sensor.

Setup

A built-in web server allows configuration from any browser.

Multi-Sensor Systems

Networking of several sensors is supported natively.

Connectivity

An open-source SDK, native drivers and industrial protocols connect the sensor to other equipment.

LMI Gocator 2500 Uses

The series is used where parts move fast or must be inspected completely.

Consumer Electronics

The small models measure fine features on electronic parts at high line speeds.

Battery and Semiconductor Production

The maker lists EV battery and semiconductor manufacturing among its industries.

Glass and Polished Parts

The specular models measure surfaces that reflect like a mirror.
