LMI Gocator 2400 series 3D laser line profiler

The LMI Gocator 2400 is a series of smart 3D laser line profilers with a 2-megapixel imager and up to 1940 data points per profile. The manufacturer does not publish prices. This review covers the models, specifications, features and uses.

Quick Verdict

The 2400 series is the broad middle of the Gocator range. Its six models cover an unusual span, from a 10 mm field of view for small electronic parts to 2 m for large objects, so one sensor family and one software environment can serve very different stations. Blue-laser models handle dark and shiny materials. The series is certified for Universal Robots, which eases use on cobots. The series page gives no scan rates or weights; buyers who need the highest speed should look at the 2500 series, and those who need the highest resolution at the 2600.

Design and Build Quality

All models share a 2-megapixel imager. The two smallest, the 2410 and 2420, use blue lasers and reach micron-level resolution for fine features. The 2490 is at the other extreme: with a 2 m field of view and a measurement range of more than 1.5 m it scans large objects with a single sensor.

Software and Integration

Setup

A browser-based interface is used for configuration and real-time 3D visualization.

Connectivity

An open-source SDK, native drivers and industrial protocols connect the sensor to user applications, robots and PLCs.

Universal Robots

The series is Universal Robots+ certified.

Emulator

A virtual sensor allows testing with recorded data before purchase.

LMI Gocator 2400 Uses

Small Electronic Parts

The maker cites 100% inspection of difficult targets such as fine features on small electronic parts.

Dark Materials

Tire treads, sidewalls and rubber sheets are named as typical dark targets.

High-Speed Inline Inspection

The series is intended for inline use on moving production lines.
