LMI Gocator 2100 series 3D laser line profiler

The LMI Gocator 2100 is the entry-level series of LMI's smart 3D laser line profilers, with a VGA imager and 640 points per profile. The manufacturer does not publish prices. This review covers the models, specifications, features and uses.

Quick Verdict

The 2100 series is the low-cost way into the Gocator family. It has the same all-in-one design as the more expensive lines, with scanning, measurement and pass or fail output inside the sensor, the same browser setup and the same Universal Robots certification. What it gives up is resolution: 640 points per profile against 1280 on the 2300 series. LMI positions it for inline inspection where the highest resolution is not needed. The series page gives no scan rates or weights.

Design and Build Quality

The series shares its optical geometry with the 2300 series, so each 2100 model has a counterpart with the same field of view and range and twice the points per profile. This makes it possible to prototype on one and move to the other without redesigning the station.

Software and Integration

Setup

A browser-based interface is used for configuration and real-time 3D visualization.

Connectivity

An open-source SDK, native drivers and industrial protocols connect the sensor to user applications, robots and PLCs.

Universal Robots

The series is Universal Robots+ certified.

LMI Gocator 2100 Uses

Cost-Sensitive Inline Inspection

LMI describes the series as suited to inline quality inspection where the highest resolution is not required.

Large Parts

The 2175 and 2180 cover fields of view of more than one metre.

Robot Guidance

Certification for Universal Robots supports use on cobots.
