HaiPick A42 Review: Features and Uses of the Multi-Layer Case-Handling Robot
Updated: 7 days ago

The HaiPick A42 is an autonomous case-handling robot from Hai Robotics that carries up to nine cases at once and picks and stores at heights of up to 6 m. The manufacturer does not publish a price. This review covers its capabilities, options and uses.
Quick Verdict
The A42 is the model that defined the case-handling robot: a mobile robot with a mast that takes totes or cartons from ordinary shelving and carries several of them to a workstation in one trip. Carrying up to nine cases per journey is what makes it efficient, and reaching 6 m lets a warehouse use its height without a fixed storage machine. The robot handles both plastic totes and cartons, charges itself and is certified to CE and NRTL. Hai's page gives no payload, speed or dimensions, so the comparison with competitors on those points needs the data sheet.

Design and Options

The robot consists of a mobile base, a mast with a lifting fork and a stack of trays on its back. The fork takes a case from the shelf and places it on a tray; with nine positions the robot collects a batch of orders before it returns. Options extend the basic design: a double-deep fork reaches a second row of cases, which the maker says saves about half of the aisle area; 3D vision allows picking of cartons without special labels; and a fork of adjustable width handles containers of different sizes. The series has four models, and related versions use grappling hooks or a telescopic lift.
Software and Integration
HaiQ
The robots are managed by Hai's HaiQ platform, which assigns tasks and routes.
Safety
Obstacle detection, active avoidance and a collision alarm protect people and equipment in shared areas.
HaiPick A42 Uses
The A42 is used for goods-to-person picking and storage of cases.
Order Picking
The robot brings batches of totes to a picking station, so that people do not walk the aisles.
Dense Storage
Shelving up to 6 m high and optional double-deep storage raise the number of cases stored per square metre.
Mixed Containers
Totes and cartons can be handled in the same system.
