Company History
Agility grew out of the Dynamic Robotics Lab at Oregon State University, where Jonathan Hurst studied legged locomotion. Its first product was Cassie, a pair of robot legs with no upper body, sold to research labs from 2016; Cassie later set a Guinness World Record for the 100-meter run by a bipedal robot. Digit added a torso, arms and perception in 2017, and Ford became the first customer for a version of it, to explore last-mile delivery.
The company then turned to logistics. The current Digit was shown in 2023, the year Agility announced RoboFab, its humanoid robot factory in Salem, and partnerships with Amazon and GXO Logistics. In 2024 GXO signed what the companies called the first robots-as-a-service contract for humanoids, at a Spanx facility near Atlanta.
