Solomon 3D – AI-Powered Visual Inspection Line for Electronics Assembly

Company:

Solomon 3D

Start Date:

2023

Category:

Quality Inspection

Project Description:

Solomon 3D implemented an AI-powered machine vision inspection system on a printed circuit board assembly line at an electronics manufacturer. High-resolution cameras and structured light sensors capture images of each PCB after soldering to detect defects including missing components, solder bridging, insufficient solder, lifted leads, and foreign material. Deep learning models trained on thousands of annotated defect images classify defects with over 99% recall, reducing escapes to downstream test significantly. The system operates inline at production speed without adding cycle time, replacing time-consuming and inconsistent manual visual inspection by operators. Defect data is logged to a traceability database linked to each board's serial number for warranty and quality analysis. The system learns continuously as new defect types are identified and fed back into the training pipeline.
