Project Description:
Sarcos Technology and Robotics ran a multi-site industrial trial of powered exoskeleton systems at manufacturing and logistics facilities where workers perform repetitive lifting, overhead work, and heavy material handling. The exoskeleton provides assistive torque to the lumbar, shoulder, and leg joints, reducing muscle strain and cumulative loading that leads to musculoskeletal injuries. Workers wear the system for full shifts; data logging captures effort distribution, movement patterns, and usage hours. Safety features include automatic power cutoff if the wearer falls and manual release mechanisms. Trial results showed significant reduction in reported discomfort scores and a measurable decrease in injury incident rates over six months compared to the control group. The program also measured adoption rates, which were correlated with proper fit and initial training quality.
