Grenzebach – Automotive Body-in-White Robotic Welding Line

Company:

Grenzebach

Start Date:

2020

Category:

Automotive Manufacturing

Project Description:

Grenzebach supplied robotic welding systems for a major automotive manufacturer's body-in-white production line, where robot arms perform thousands of resistance spot welds and arc welds to join stamped steel and aluminum panels into vehicle body structures. The project involved designing cell layouts, selecting robot models for each zone by reach and payload, programming complex multi-robot coordinated sequences, and integrating with the plant's PLC and MES systems. Robots work in synchronized clusters managed by a central production controller that tracks weld counts, gun pressure, and current data for quality traceability. Vision systems verify panel placement before welding to prevent errors. The line achieves industry-standard cycle times while meeting automotive weld quality standards. Changeover tooling allows the line to produce multiple vehicle models on the same equipment.
